How many of you have experienced a train journey?
Eliciting responses
You know, when I go for a journey, I will be so much
interested in looking out of the window and watching the people around me,
looking for different places and faces. How about you?

Watch it.....
(The teacher
projects the prepared video clip showing a train journey from the point of
view of a traveller.... Different
scenes from the poem are displayed throughout it.)

Microprocessing of the input
Now go through your
text book, page 64. There is a poem titled From a Railway Carriage by Robert Louis Stevenson. Read it
silently and underline the difficult words after reading it.
Individual Reading
The teacher now asks one of the students to read the poem
loudly and while reading it, the clip is played once again. Other students
listen as well as watch the clip. The difficult words’ meanings are derived
from the visuals of it.
Reading aloud by the teacher
The teacher reads the poem once making the ideas and
concepts clear for the learners.
Group discussions and activity
The students are now asked to sit in groups and discuss
their ideas and doubts in it.
You have seen what were
the scenes that the poet saw in his train journey. Now write it in the form
of a diary written by the poet on that day.
Presentation and
Improvisation
Now the teacher asks the students to present their
write-ups in the class. Mistakes are cleared at the end in a general talk.
